Some Information on Fr Jim Greene MAfr

As announced by Fr Paul Smyth, the President of Solidarity with South Sudan, Father Jim Greene will replace me as Executive Director in South Sudan at the Board meeting next year, scheduled for the end of April, after some months of becoming familiar with our ministry and our members.

Jim graduated in 1977 from St Kieran’s College, Kilkenny, Ireland and then completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1980 in Dublin and a Baccalaureate in Philosophy in 1982. Later, in 2001, he completed an M.A. in Peace Studies at Bradford University in the UK.

From 1988 to 1997 he worked in two parishes in Malawi before moving to Dublin to serve as Treasurer of the Irish province of the Missionaries of Africa until 2001. He returned to Malawi from 2002 to 2004 before becoming a General Councillor of his congregation until 2010 with responsibilities that included JPIC, finances and liaison with a number of Provinces in Africa.

He is currently appointed to Sr Anne’s Basilica in Jerusalem living in a community composed of 22 full-time members, which hosts biblical/spiritual sessions. He is the bursar for the house as well as Treasurer for the Missionaries of Africa administrative section of Jerusalem, Ethiopia and Beirut as well as administering two pilgrimage sites in Jerusalem. He will be freed from these responsibilities before the end of this year and so be able to come to South Sudan early next year where we shall be pleased to welcome him.
