“Misiones Salesianas” – the Salesian Mission Office in Madrid – in collaboration with the “International Mary Help of Christians Institute” (IIMA), “VIDES International” and “Jugendhilfe Weltweit”, organized at the United Nations in New York a side event of the 38th session of the Human Rights Council taking place in Geneva. The goal was to give visibility to the most vulnerable minors who are forced to work as prostitutes to survive, a harsh reality presented in the documentary “Love”.
Jesuit Refugee Service/USA urges the U.S. Government to take necessary action to ensure that asylum seekers arriving in the U.S. are not criminally punished for trying to seek protection and that the rights and dignity of children and families entering the U.S. are respected.
JRS/USA believes any U.S. policies calling for the indefinite detention of families seeking asylum are contrary to our Catholic values and violate the rights of asylum seekers and the dignity of children and their families. For the past month, Muslims have been observing Ramadan: fasting from dawn till dusk, doing extra prayers, extending charity to those in need, and being more mindful of God.
