Angel of the Amazon: Dorothy Stang, SNDdeN
Dorothy persistently pressured the government to do its job of defending the rights of the people. She never lost hope. Dorothy was targeted and received death threats, but she never gave up. On 12 February 2005, as she walked along a muddy Amazon jungle road attempting to halt illegal logging where landsharks had interests but no legal rights, she was shot and killed by a hired gunman.
Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who continue to work and walk with the people in the Amazon region will present the current picture and speak of the on-going struggle. To learn how the struggle to empower local indigenous peoples and small farmers continues today, please join us.
