2018-2019 Year of Cardinal Bea – 50th Anniversary LECTURE SERIES

Dear Friends of the Cardinal Bea Centre,

This year offers us the opportunity to honour the contribution of our Centre’s eponym, Augustin Bea, on the 50th Anniversary of his passing. Over the course of the 2018-2019 Year of Cardinal Bea, we will celebrate with a series of evening lectures on Jewish-Christian relations, ecumenical dialogue, and biblical studies in gratitude for the life of this great man whose gift to the Church helped open the way for a number of dialogues of unity. The Bea Centre is proud to present this programme together with the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, the Center for the Study of Christianity at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the Pontifical Biblical Institute. To open our 2018-2019 Lecture Series, it is our pleasure to invite you to the 18th Annual Brenninkmeijer-Werhahn Lecture, entitled “Rewriting Nostra Aetate Today”.

This evening lecture will be introduced by historian Dr Saretta Marotta of KU Leuven with her portrait of L’impegno di Augustin Bea nelle relazioni ebraico-cristiane (Augustin Bea’s Dedication to Jewish- Christian Relations). We are honoured to host Israeli scholar Prof. Israel J. Yuval of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, one of the foremost Jewish authorities on Jewish-Christian questions today, who will speak on The Impact of Nostra Aetate on Jewish Studies.

We will be joined for the first time by Dr René Dausner of the Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, prolific, specialised scholar and member of the “Juden und Christen” discussion group of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK), who will discuss The Future of Nostra Aetate. This event will be held on Wednesday, 7 November 2018 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm in Lecture Theatre C008 of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Piazza della Pilotta, 4, Rome (invitation attached).

Lectures will be given in English and Italian, and simultaneous translation will be provided. A light aperitif will follow. The event is free and open to the public. We look forward to your participation in our Year of Cardinal Bea and hope to see you on 7 November. Best wishes for an inspired beginning to the new academic year.

Sincerely,
Fr Etienne Vetö ccn
