Brother Emili Turù Rofes new USG secretary general
Dear members of the USG,
As retiring President of our Union I have the joy of informing you that the search for a replacement for Fr David Kinnear Glenday MCCJ as secretary general has been successful. For some time now Fr David, who first took up this post in March 2009, had suggested that the Executive Council should seek to replace him in the not too distant future. Now that the search is concluded I can inform you that I have appointed as secretary general of the USG, after having obtained the consent of the Executive Council, Brother Emili Turù Rofes, of the Marist Brothers, superior general of his Institute from 2009 to 2017. Many of us already know Brother Emili from his active and enriching participation in the Assemblies of recent years.
We are very grateful to Brother Emili for having accepted and to his Congregation for having made him available. We wish him every good thing, aware that neither challenges nor satisfactions will be lacking.
I cannot conclude here without expressing on my own behalf and on that of all of you our gratitude for the work done by Father David, who has been our secretary general for almost ten years. We have come to appreciate his competence, his dedication and his sense of humor. He has always been able to put us at our ease and, with the generous and efficient cooperation of the secretariat team, to coordinate our Assemblies in an almost invisible but extremely efficient manner. To him our heartfelt thanks and may God reward him for all he has done for our Union, with gratitude too towards the Comboni Missionaries for having freed their confrere for this service to religious life.
Brother Emili will be available to the Union from the beginning of 2019 and will take over officially as secretary general on March 1st. This will give us the opportunity to thank Fr David publicly during our next Assembly, in November this year.
I gladly take this opportunity to wish you every good thing and to send you my fraternal greetings.
Fra Mauro Joehri OFMCap
