The Society of the Divine Word (SVD) 18th General Chapter
151 participants from 46 countries on five continents of which, Superiors and delegates of 58 Provinces, Regions and Missions, representing more than 6000 Divine Word missionaries working in 84 countries across the world, members of the General Council, officials of the Generalate, two representatives of the Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters, 4 lay partners from the four zones (AFRAM, ASPAC, EUROPE and PANAM), SVD observers and staff, will gather at the Centro Ad Gentes in Nemi, Italy, from June 17 to July 14, 2018 for the 18th General Chapter.
The theme of this chapter is: “The Love of Christ impels us’ (2 Cor 5:14): Rooted in the Word, Committed to His Mission.
In addition to discussing the main theme, the Chapter’s basic agenda will include the Reports of the Generalate, Zones, Provinces/Regions/Missions; the review of the resolutions, recommendations, and Congregational Directions of the 17th General Chapter, the proposed resolutions and recommendations from the Generalate, Provinces/Regions/Missions and individual Confreres, and the election of the Superior General and his council.
The Society of the Divine Word (SVD) is a congregation of priests and brothers which was founded by Saint Arnold Janssen in 1875 at Steyl in Holland. They are also commonly known as Divine Word Missionaries. The members of the congregation are present and working in all the continents of the world. They are mostly engaged in pastoral work, education, biblical apostolate, communication, justice, peace and integrity of creation, and other specialized ministries.
