Sisters of Notre Dame: General Chapter

sisters-notre-dame-284x300The Sisters of Notre Dame will hold their General Chapter in Coesfeld, Germany, the place of their founding, from September 28, 2016, through October 24, 2016.

They kindly request that you accompany them in prayer during this time – that they may be open to the graces of the Holy Spirit as they elect a leadership team and discern their direction forward for the next 6 years.

The theme of the General Chapter is:

Encountering the Word,Engaging the World.

VATICAN – Fr Canavarros dos Santos, SDB, appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Manaus

canvarrosToday 12 October, the Holy Father Pope Francis, appointed Fr Edmilson Tadeu Canavarros dos Santos, SDB, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Manaus, Brazil, assigning him the titular see of Feradi.

Canavarros dos Santos was born on 5 December 1967 in Corumbá in the state of Mato Grosso. He made his first religious profession on 31 January 1988 in Dourados, and his perpetual profession on 22 May 1994 in Araçatuba. He was ordained priest on 7 December 1996 in Campo Grande.

Father Arturo Sosa SJ, 31st General of the Society of Jesus

sousaThe 36th General Congregation has elected Father Arturo Sosa Abascal, of the Jesuit Province of Venezuela as Superior General.

Father Sosa was born in Caracas, Venezuela on 12 November 1948. Until his election, Father Sosa has been Delegate for Interprovincial Houses of the Society in Rome, as well as serving on the General Council as a Counsellor. He obtained a licentiate in philosophy from l’Università Cattolica Andrés Bello in 1972. He later obtained a doctorate in Political Science from l’Università Centrale del Venezuela, in 1990. He speaks Spanish, Italian, English, and understands French. Continue reading

Identity and Mission of the Religious Brother in the Church
